# Scribe

> Generate a Scribe API key, connect it in Rulebase, and import Scribe guides and knowledge pages into your knowledge base.

Connect Scribe to Rulebase to use Scribe documents and knowledge pages as knowledge base content for evaluations and training.

## Prerequisites

* Your Scribe organization must be on an **Enterprise Grid** or **Global** plan with Search & Retrieval API access.
* You must be able to generate a Scribe API key with access to the teams whose documents Rulebase should read.
* You must have the Administrator role in Rulebase.

## Installation

### Step 1: generate a Scribe API key

1. Open Scribe **Settings** → **Developer Access**
2. Generate a new API key
3. Copy the key immediately (it starts with `sc_` and is shown only once)

API keys are scoped to one or more Scribe teams. Rulebase imports every document those teams can access.

### Step 2: connect Scribe in Rulebase

1. Log in to your [Rulebase dashboard](https://app.rulebase.co)
2. Go to **Settings** → **Integrations**
3. Find **Scribe** and click **Add**
4. Paste your Scribe API key and save

### Step 3: import into Knowledge

1. Go to **Knowledge**
2. Click **Manage** to open **Manage knowledge base**
3. Open **Import** → **Scribe**
4. Select the connected Scribe account and click **Import**

Rulebase syncs all accessible Scribe documents (`scribe` guides and `page` knowledge pages), converts them into knowledge base documents, and downloads screenshots for SOP fidelity.

## What gets synced

* Published Scribe documents and knowledge pages accessible to the API key
* Step text for Scribe guides, including screenshots when available
* Page body content from Scribe knowledge pages
* Source links back to the original Scribe documents

## Refresh behavior

* Importing creates a knowledge base source and starts an initial sync
* Sources refresh on the regular knowledge base sync schedule
* You can also refresh a source from **Manage knowledge base**
* Documents are updated in place by Scribe document ID, so refreshes do not create uncontrolled duplicates
* Documents removed from Scribe (or no longer accessible to the key) are discarded from the Rulebase knowledge base

## Next steps

* Add the imported Scribe content to scorecards and training workflows
* Confirm evaluations can cite the ingested Scribe documents
