# Slack

> Install the Rulebase app in your Slack workspace, then choose which Slack channels Rulebase alerts post to.

Connect Slack to Rulebase so alerts and digests reach your team where they already work. The install covers the whole workspace; you choose the destination channels afterwards in Rulebase.

## Prerequisites

* You must be allowed to install apps in your Slack workspace.
* You must have the Administrator role in Rulebase.

## Installation

### Step 1: connect Slack

1. Log in to your [Rulebase dashboard](https://app.rulebase.co)
2. Go to **Settings** > **Integrations**
3. Find **Slack** in the list and click **Add**
4. Choose the Slack workspace in the popup
5. Review the requested permissions and click **Allow**

Rulebase stores the workspace connection, which lets it post messages to channels, send direct messages, and read your channel list. No channel is chosen during the install.

### Step 2: choose where alerts post

1. Go to **Settings** > **Notifications**
2. Under **Real-time complaints alerts**, pick the channel complaint alerts should go to

Digests such as the compliance and customer issues summaries are sent by email to the recipients you list, not to Slack. [Configure notifications](/guides/settings/configure-notifications) covers the whole page.

Slack alerts announce to a channel. To send a particular kind of conversation to a specific person or queue and track it until someone deals with it, use a [routing rule](/guides/quality-assurance/create-routing-rules) instead.

## When a message does not arrive

* **Invite the Rulebase app to the channel.** Rulebase can only post where the app is a member. In Slack, open the channel and use `/invite @Rulebase`. This is the most common cause of a rule that looks configured but stays quiet.
* **Check the channel is in the list.** The picker is built from the public channels Rulebase can see in your workspace, refreshed daily, so a channel created minutes ago or a private channel may not appear yet.
* **If the picker is completely empty**, the channel list has never synced for your workspace. Reinstall Slack from **Settings** > **Integrations** and, if it stays empty, contact Rulebase support; this is a known issue we are tracking.
* **Confirm a complaint was detected.** The complaints alert posts only when Rulebase classifies a conversation as a complaint, so a quiet period produces no messages at all.
* **Check the connection itself.** [Manage integrations](/guides/integrations/manage-integrations) covers reading connection state and reconnecting.
