Gradient Labs assigns each API key exactly one role, so one key cannot do both jobs:
  • Management — updates procedures, tools, resources, and other agent configuration.
  • Integration — runs conversations, including test runs against your agent.
Submit both keys to use everything Rulebase can do with Gradient Labs. If you only have one, submit it now and add the other later — you keep the capabilities of the keys you have shared.

Prerequisites

  • You must be a Gradient Labs Admin.
  • You must have the Administrator role or integrations:manage permission in Rulebase.

Installation

Step 1: Create a management API key in Gradient Labs (for agent configuration)

  1. Sign in to Gradient Labs.
  2. Go to Integrations > API.
  3. In the API Keys section, click New API key.
  4. Give the key a name, choose the Management role, and create the key.
  5. Copy the key immediately. Gradient Labs shows it only once.

Step 2: Create an integration API key in Gradient Labs (for conversations)

  1. In Integrations > API, click New API key again.
  2. Give the key a name, choose the Integration role, and create the key.
  3. Copy the key immediately. Gradient Labs shows it only once.
Requests sent with the wrong role fail with permission_denied, so keep the two keys distinct. See Gradient Labs API authentication for details about API-key roles and authentication.

Step 3: Connect Gradient Labs in Rulebase

  1. Log in to your Rulebase dashboard.
  2. Go to Settings > Connections.
  3. Find Gradient Labs and click Add connection.
  4. Paste the Management API key, the Integration API key, or both.
  5. Click Connect.

Next steps

  • To rotate or add a key, create it in Gradient Labs and submit it from Settings > Connections. A key you leave blank keeps its stored value.
  • See Roles and permissions to control which Rulebase users can manage connections.
